Michael Adebowale, one of the men who killed Lee Rigby, is 'fighting for every breath' after contracting the coronavirus.

The 29-year-old was taken from high-security psychiatric hospital Broadmoor and on to a specialist war last week after his condition worsened, the Sun reports.

Speaking to the paper an unnamed source claimed: "He's in a very bad way and fighting for every breath.

"It's reached the stage where it's a 24/7 battle. If he deteriorates much further, intensive care would be the next step. He's very young to be affected so badly."

It's reported that he tested positive for coronavirus two weeks ago.

The source went on to say that Adebowale is not on a ventilator but is currently receiving oxygen.

Fusilier Rigby was just 25 when he was killed by Adebowale and Michael Adebolajo in May 2013. He was run over and then stabbed him to death outside his barracks in south east London.

The brutal attack was fuelled by extremist beliefs the killers held - which were described as a 'betrayal of Islam' at their murder trial in 2014.

Adebowale is serving a life sentence.

Rigby's mum, Lyn Rigby, 53, told the Sun: "It would not be justice for Covid to take this man prematurely and end the sentence handed to him.

"We've maintained true justice for Lee is to see his killers remain behind bars and serve every day of their sentence."
