Machete-Waving Thug Chases Man Down Glasgow Street In Broad Daylight

It's not clear whether the two men knew each other, or even whether this was a premeditated attack

On Friday night, most people in Glasgow were enjoying the gorgeous weather. But in Castlemilk, two men were caught on camera fighting with what looks like a machete and a broken bottle. Check out the video below:

As you can see in the footage, a man in a grey jacket, black trousers and trainers walks across the road to a man in a white top and white shorts. As they stand in the middle of the road, an altercation breaks out.

The man in the grey jacket swings what appears to be a machete or a sword at the other, who has a bottle, which he appears to be using as a weapon. He throws the bottle on the ground and it smashes, then makes a run for it, with the man with a machete in hot pursuit.

But after only a few seconds, the man with the machete lets up.

The footage is pretty grainy, and it's unclear whether the two knew each other or even if this was a premeditated attack. It's also not clear what the weapon was - it could be a machete, or a sword, or even a stick.

A police car is seen pulling up, but the man with the machete is seen running into a woodland area.

The police didn't manage to apprehend him, despite bringing out a helicopter.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 6.20pm on Friday, June 1, police received a report of a man in Lainshaw Drive, Castlemilk with an offensive weapon.

"Officers attended and conducted a search of the area resulting in a negative response.

"There were no reports of any injuries or attacks. We can confirm the helicopter was used as part of the search. Inquiries are continuing."

This is far from the first machete attack to be reported in the UK this year - in April this year a 49-year-old grandmother shot a masked intruder with her crossbow after a gang of men burst into her home with a machete.

Anji Rhys, an ex-Thai boxer, told the Sun she was watching TV when she heard a noise like 'an explosion'.

"I ran to see and was met by a masked man with a hammer," she told the paper.

"He was about 6ft 6in with a blue bandana hiding his face.

"The gang chased me into the living room so I grabbed my crossbow from the wall. I had a tussle with a second man with a machete, a skinny man who walked with a stoop."

She says when the man spotted the crossbow he attempted to grab it, but she spun out of his way and was able to shoot him in the stomach from close range.

"One tried to grab me but I shot him in the belly. Then they ran," she said.

"I hit one in the belly at close range. He shouted, 'You fucking bitch! You shot me!'"

After the men fled, Anji called police, who questioned her and are now investigating the break-in. She said cops did not arrest her because no victim had come forward. Well, he's not likely to, is he?
