A magnet fisherman has reeled in what he believes could be the biggest ever weapons haul from a UK canal. You can watch the video here:

Andrew, who runs White Welly Magnet Fishing, unearthed an array of weaponry from a canal in Burnley last month.

Among a load of miscellaneous bits of metal discovered in the unassuming canal was an arsenal comprised of a British Sterling L2A3 submachine gun, a Czech Skorpion M83 submachine gun, a Smith And Wesson revolver, a starter pistol, a Nepali Khukuri machete and another 12-inch blade.

Andrew uploaded footage from the 'epic day' to his YouTube channel. In the video, partner Hannah can be seen phoning the police to report the finds as Andrew remarks: "That is a bucket list find. I think it's on everyone's bucket list to find a machine gun. I'm shaking.

"We have been fishing for eight months. This is our first major find - still in shock.

"Finding and holding that many guns is insane. Was an epic day."

Armed police arrived shortly afterwards to take away their memorable haul, but while they may no longer have the weapons, Andrew and Hannah will forever have the respect of the magnet fishing community.

Commenting on the video, one person said: "Wow just wow! You guys hit that once in a lifetime find! What a day for you guys. You smashed it guys!"

Another said: "Sure you weren't in Arkansas, USA? That looks like a gun count from here, not there!"

A third added: "Dang I need to come to the UK for real to magnet fish!! I feel like I say that on almost every video I watch from the UK!! The guns were awesome, the revolver was my fave but I really liked that knife! Good job guys!!"

If you've never heard of magnet fishing before, it's probably exactly what you would guess it is - fishing, but with magnets, in order to discover all kinds of magnetic objects that might have found their way into a body of water. Kind of like fishing meets metal detecting meets treasure hunting.

It can also have a positive environmental impact because it can help to clear out all sorts of toxic metals from rivers and canals.

However, it can also be a dangerous pastime. Items such as guns and grenades pose an obvious threat and in 2018 a father and son drowned while magnet fishing, prompting the coroner to issue a warning about the 'inherent dangers' of the hobby.
