Man Drinking Beer On Seafront Complains About Social Distancing Not Being Strict Enough

Man Drinking Beer On Seafront Complains About Social Distancing Not Being Strict Enough

“I think we should be more stricter like Spain and none of us be allowed out"

People were filmed enjoying the sunshine on Brighton's seafront yesterday, with one man drinking beer caught on camera complaining about the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Despite the fact Brighton Council had urged visitors to stay away from its popular beach, many people flocked to the seaside to make the most of the good weather.

Good Morning Britain sent a reporter down to the beachfront to speak to those who had decided to congregate in the area.

One man, who was holding a bottle of beer, said he believed restrictions should be 'stricter' - but defended his own actions by saying what works for him might not work for others.

He said: "Me personally, I think the way we're going - I know we're down here drinking beer so it looks like we're saying what's good for us is not good for everyone else - but if we carry on the way we're going I think we're going to have a major lockdown in two weeks, the way that we let the restrictions up.

"In two weeks I think we're going to see a massive rise in the deaths again.

"I think we should be more stricter like Spain and none of us be allowed out."

A woman sitting nearby also defended sitting in a large group, adding: "When it's family, it's a little bit different when it comes to six people.

"Because we're all family, and we're all in each other's homes, so we're allowed to do that."

The irony wasn't missed by viewers at home, with one person tweeting: "Cannot believe those morons in Brighton on @GMB People really are stupid."

A second said: "I'm sat here baffled after your report from Brighton [...] People were actually saying 'You can't social distance here' so why are they there being part of the problem? Mind boggling! As for 'we're all family, in and out of each others homes'. Head scratching

Another added: "The rules aren't difficult. Some people just don't give a s***."

Another woman, who was sat on the beach, also told GMB: "Whilst everyone has been in lockdown for so long and it's the hottest day of the year, everyone's going to come to the beach, especially when you've got places serving a beer."
