'You could sense it had some serious power behind it.'

It's fair to say that so far, the British summer has been a bit of a wash-out. We've had more than our fair share of rain this June, but while we're all pretty used to rain by now, one thing you probably wouldn't expect to see in the UK is a tornado, right?

Well, feast on your eyes on this footage captured by a fella from Barnsley, South Yorkshire:

Alright, it's not quite worthy of The Wizard of Oz, but it's still pretty impressive, isn't it?

Dean Hargreaves was in the back garden of his home on Saturday, laying his new patio when he looked up and spotted the funnel forming in the rain clouds.

It quickly began spiralling and Dean, 45, realised he was looking at tornado, so he whipped out his phone and started filming.

"I was very excited at what I was seeing, to be honest, as it was a first for me," Dean said.

"But when the tornado got closer the wind picked up and [the rain] hammered it down which did get the heart pounding a little.

"Even though the tornado was small you could sense it had some serious power behind it. I was glad it wasn't any closer to me, that's for sure.

"I was flagging a patio under a large lean-to roof and the rain started picking up. I decided to have a break and looked over to see if there was going to be a break in the rain.

"I could see what looked like a funnel forming and then the tornado was just there. I grabbed my phone and started recording.

"The tornado started to form, and I could see it moving and spiralling upwards.

"It looks like it is going to disappear and then it forms again.

"You could see something being sucked up into it.

"Family and friends that I have shown it to are shocked as we have never witnessed anything like this [in the UK] before.

"I didn't fear for my safety at the time but looking back at the video I certainly feel lucky it wasn't coming straight at me and was instead going away from me.

"I don't think any damage was done - at least not that I could see or that has been reported. But something was definitely sucked up, which you can see in the video."

Wonder what that 'something' was? Sadly, we may never know. Still, pretty cool.
