Man Racks Up Huge £335 Bill At Pub And Leaves Without Paying

The bar tab, partnered with the cost of accommodation, meant the man walked away from a £335 charge

No one likes checking their bank account the day after a big bender, when you'll often tentatively log into your online banking app to find you dropped £60 on a round for the LADs at 4am - knowing full well that no one needed those Jägerbombs, and most of your mates will have thrown them up 20 seconds later.

But those early-hours rounds pale in comparison to the £200 bill this guy racked up at the bar alone, alongside his costs for a room for the night... especially considering he even had the cheek to leave without even paying his £335 bill.

North Yorkshire Police said they have launched an investigation into the man, who's been running up hefty bar and accommodation bills at several establishments.

Richmondshire Today reports he worked up a charge of £195.50 in just one afternoon on 17 November at the Wyvill Arms pub in Constable Burton.

As you can imagine, that involved a fair bit of booze and scran - including a steak pie for lunch and a fillet steak (with pepper sauce, obvs) for tea, 14 vodka and cokes, four large white wines, four bottles of Peroni, two gins and two pints of lager. And a cheeky bottle of Prosecco, because why the hell not?

I mean, I'm a big fan of ALL of those things, but that sounds like an intense sesh. Fingers crossed he had a pal to share at least some of it with.

The bloke had apparently booked in to stay for two nights, before leaving the following day to say he was off to meet his wife but would be back.

He never returned, and that bar tab partnered with the cost of the room meant he walked away from a £335 charge.

Landlord Nigel Stevens told Richmondshire Today that he usually took deposits from guests staying overnight, but unfortunately hadn't done this time.

He admitted he'd felt a bit suspicious of the fella, and went to check what car he was driving - believing it was an expensive Audi out in the car park. Turns out that was another customer's car, and the runaway customer was actually in a 51 reg Vauxhall Corsa.

"I couldn't believe he was still standing after drinking all that," Nigel said.

"I'd advise other pubs and hotels to be on their guard."

Richmondshire Today also spoke to Dave Bate, who is the landlord of the White Horse in Ripon. He said a man matching the same desciption stayed with them for five nights in November and left without paying his bill of around £500.

Dave said: "The man said his boss would be paying. He's a pathological liar and clearly a very heavy drinker."

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "The following day, we received a report from staff at pub in Hunton that a man had left without making an attempt to pay for his room, food and alcohol.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and establish if the two incidents are connected.

"Anyone who has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101."
