The footage shows the moment a man armed with a loaded crossbow pointed it at passers-by:

The 31-year-old, who has since been arrested on suspicion of affray, turned the weapon towards police when they arrived at the scene in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

The incident took place in the early hours of this morning (9 May) following reports from members of the public. The man has now been remanded in custody.

In the video, the person filming can be heard shouting: "What you doing?" As he gets dangerously close to the man with the crossbow.

The man begins to walk away as a police car arrives, before dropping the weapon on the floor.

As the police start to follow the unidentified man, the person filming the incident spots him run back over and retrieve the crossbow. Informing the officers, he shouts: "He's got it," which resulted in the cops moving back to safety.

The man was located on police CCTV and eventually he dropped the weapon before being detained under the Mental Health Act.

Superintendent Paul McCurry explained: "Prior to their arrival, unarmed officers on routine public order duty approached the man using their shields to protect members of the public.

"Their actions resulted in the man dropping the weapon, which was safely recovered.

"The man then ran from officers, climbing onto the bridge on West Way. Due to the skills of officers at the scene, he was swiftly detained and brought to safety."
