A man who angered locals by driving down a street in Hampshire shouting 'wakey wakey' through a megaphone at 2am has been found by police - who say his vehicle will be seized if he does it again.

Residents of the Brockhurst and Elson areas of Gosport made various complaints to the police, having been disturbed by the man on multiple mornings during the past week.

Gosport Police have said they've now managed to track down the unnamed man from Fareham, having issued him with a warning.

They also said that if he pulls a similar stunt again within the next 12 months, he'll have his vehicle seized - even if it's a 'different vehicle to the one driven on this occasion'.

The force shared a screenshot of a post from social media, which said: "Someone driving down Brockhurst Road with a megaphone at 2am shouting 'wakey wakey'. I hope they get caught by the police."

A statement from Gosport Police that accompanied the screenshot said: "Over the last week, we have received many complaints of a male causing a nuisance, while driving a red Nissan Navara in the Brockhurst and Elson areas.

"In the early hours of various mornings, the 21-year-old driver and his passengers were heard shouting 'wakey wakey' at the top of their voices, as well as many other unnecessary things.

"While generally annoying residents who were trying to sleep, the male, from Fareham, was also seen turning off his lights and shouting, 'you can't the call police because you can't see us.' How wrong he was."

It continued: "Our Response & Patrol colleagues caught up with him yesterday and issued him with a section 59 warning (Police Reform Act 2002).

"In short, if he does similar in the next 12 months, his vehicle will be seized, even if a different vehicle to the one driven on this occasion.

"If you witness this male doing the same, please call us and quote incident number 44200439605, so we can remove his vehicle from him."

Commenting on the Facebook post, one person wrote: "He was doing this I think last week or the week before in Fareham and saying the same thing at 1am. I jumped out of bed thinking something was going on and it was the police getting people's attention until I looked out the window and it was the same car."

Someone else said: "Brilliant. Well done Gosport Police!! Some people think they are untouchable!"
