A shocked motorist filmed the moment a machete-wielding masked man attempted to smash a car window after a collision.

The horrifying clip shows two balaclava-wearing men jump out of a silver BMW after it crashes into a Toyota Yaris. The driver of the Yaris stays inside the car while the two men begin launching an attack on the car.

In the footage, caught by a fellow motorist in Handsworth, Birmingham, one man appears to throw a hammer at the car during the incident which is even more shocking when you consider it was filmed in broad daylight on a residential street.

The passenger in the same car as the clip's cameraman can be heard saying 'back up, back up, back up', as the car quickly reverses to get away from the drama.

The Yaris is rammed again and one wheel ends up being lifted off the road. Both men then appear to run off.

The BMW has since been found by police is undergoing forensic analysis.

The driver of the Yaris was taken to hospital where he was treated for 'minor injuries', according to police in Birmingham.

The footage comes after the news that comedian Michael McIntyre was reportedly robbed by two men on a moped while doing the school-run in his Range Rover.

Police in Handsworth are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Police investigating a collision and machete attack that happened on Antrobus Road, Handsworth, on Saturday, June 2, are appealing for information.
