A massive crowd of people gathered around to watch an 'organised street fight' despite lockdown rules.

Police in Newcastle were called after reports of people flocking to watch the fight outside of a pub. Around a dozen vehicles, including a lorry, were also spotted at the scene.

The fight was live-streamed on Facebook, showing the two men, in boxing gloves, fighting while others cheered them on.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police told the Newcastle Chronicle: "We received reports that an organised fight had been arranged at a premises on Mitchell Street, Newcastle, on Friday, May 15.

"Officers attended and on arrival, a number of those present dispersed without issue and neighbourhood policing teams remained in the area to carry out patrols."

Residents in the area were fuming after spotting the clip online with one person posting: "I can't see my family or friends, yet some people think they are invincible battering each other in car parks."

Under the current UK lockdown rules, people are allowed outside to take 'unlimited amounts' of exercise with members of their own household or alone. It's also permitted to meet one person from outside your household as long as you stay two-metres apart.

It should go without saying, but mass gatherings so you can watch an amateur boxing match in a pub car park are still very much not allowed.

According to recent figures from National Police Chief's Council (NPCC) 14,424 fixed penalty notices related to lockdown breaches were handed out in the UK between 27 March and 11 May.

National Police Chiefs' Council Chair Martin Hewitt said: "The vast majority of people continue to do the right thing, which protects the NHS and helps save lives.

"The figures show our approach is proportionate with just 0.02 percent of the population in England and Wales being issued with a fine.

"I want to thank people for continuing to follow the regulations - I recognise it's not easy and that this is a challenging time for us all. Our approach of engage, explain and encourage, and only as a last resort, enforce will continue. It is working across the UK. I urge the public to keep going, keep following the advice.

"Officers are working hard to keep us all safe from the full range of crimes in what remain challenging circumstances so we would ask everyone to work with us and remember that if you need our help we are here for you."
