Madeleine McCann's parents have spoken out for the first time since a new suspect was identified 13 years after her disappearance.

Gerry and Kate McCann have vowed that they will never stop searching for their daughter, who went missing whilst the family was on holiday in Portugal in 2007.

Now, a German man has been identified as a key suspect in the case.

The man, who is in prison in Germany for an unrelated sex offence, was known to frequent the area between 1995 and 2007, and owned two vehicles seen near to the apartment complex in Praia de Luz where the McCann family was staying.

He is also known to have owned a phone that made a call on the night of May 3 at around the time the three-year-old girl was snatched.

Gerry and Kate said: "We welcome the appeal today regarding the disappearance of our daughter, Madeleine.

"We would like to thank the police forces involved for their continued efforts in the search for Madeleine.

"We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know, as we need to find peace."

Speaking as the police in both Germany and the United Kingdom appealed once again to the public for investigation, Scotland Yard investigator DCI Mark Cranwell said: "It's more than 13 years since Madeleine went missing and none of us can imagine what it must be like for her family, not knowing what happened or where she is."

"Following the 10-year anniversary, the Met received information about a German man who was known to have been in and around Praia da Luz. We have been working with colleagues in Germany and Portugal and this man is a suspect in Madeleine's disappearance."

Investigators have released images of both vehicles - a camper van and a Jaguar - as well as the phone number thought to belong to the suspect, and the number that was called.

They hope that anyone who knows anything about those details will get in touch in order to progress the case.

Anyone who has seen the VW T3 camper van, or the Jaguar XJR 6 vehicles in the area of Praia de Luz should contact the police immediately.

DCI Cranwell also appealed to the person on the end of the phone that evening to reveal themselves.

Madeleine McCann was three-years-old when she disappeared in 2007.

He said: "They're a key witness and we urge them to get in touch.

"Some people will know the man we're describing today... you may be aware of some of the things he's done.

"He may have confided in you about the disappearance of Madeleine.

"More than 13 years have passed and your loyalties may have changed.

"Now is the time to come forward."
