A driver has been left shocked and angered after dashcam footage showed that a mechanic took her Porsche Boxster out for a spin at nearly 90mph after she brought it in to be serviced.
Jane Symonds dropped off the sports car to Huw Lewis Tyres after she noticed a problem with the steering. When she returned to pick the car up she spotted that a quarter of a tank of petrol was missing from it.
Luckily, she had installed a dashcam into her swanky motor, so she reviewed the footage and was stunned to see her four wheels being driven at great speed around country lanes near Lampeter in Wales.
Let's just hope that they at least fixed the steering issues first. That sounds as if it could be pretty dangerous if not.
The dog coat salesperson - who knew that was such a lucrative business? - said that the dashcam footage showed the car travelling at 89mph at some points.
It was then returned to the garage in Aberystwyth as if nothing at all had happened to it.
She said: "One of my neighbours could have seen the car being driven like that and thought it was me. It could have damaged my reputation."
Jane has reported the issue to the police and informed trading standards officers.
Symonds continued: "That car was tarnished by what happened, it's damaged goods to me now.
"I just didn't want to drive it again knowing someone had taken it out on local roads at such dangerous speeds."
The tyre fitting business has now confirmed that the member of staff responsible was sacked from his post after the details emerged.
Huw Lewis Tyres released a statement that read: "One of our staff members has been dismissed for misconduct and we have passed the matter onto the police, so it's in their hands now.
"We spoke to the lady concerned at our Aberystwyth garage where she received an apology and have seen the dashcam footage ourselves. What happened is obviously very disappointing for us as a company.
"At the end of the day we are a locally-based family business who don't want to lose a valued customer, so we will be speaking again to this lady about this unfortunate event."
A spokesperson from Dyfed-Powys Police said: "I can confirm we have received this report and are looking into an allegation of speeding."
Jane has now also had her Porsche resprayed. Hopefully that will help her overcome this traumatic event. Or something like that.
