More Than Two Million Sign Petition For Second EU Referendum

Understandably.

Your Facebook feed has probably been unbearable for the past 30 hours or so since the results of the referendum.

Some who voted remain are fairly certain the world is going to end and a few who voted leave now think we are going to claim back the British Empire.

Obviously it's too early to say exactly what will happen but uncertainty isn't a feeling many enjoy. So much so that two million people have now signed a petition for a second EU referendum to be held.

This development comes in the wake after an MP called for Parliament to refuse to ratify the Brexit.

According to The Independent, signatories are calling for a new rule to be implemented stipulating that polls on the European Union with a majority under 60 per cent and turnout under 75 per cent must be re-started.

However, no such rule or convention currently exists.

People including David Lammy MP, have quoted Nigel Farage's statement in which he said a close result would be grounds for a second referendum.

"In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way," Farage said. "If the remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it."

It would be theoretically possible to for the government to call a second referendum but The Independent added that it's very unlikely in reality as those poised to take charge backed the Leave campaign.
