Mother Of Three Jailed For Six Weeks After Playing Ed Sheeran Non-Stop

Mother Of Three Jailed For Six Weeks After Playing Ed Sheeran Non-Stop

Bit harsh.

It feels like Ed Sheeran is everywhere at the moment. After taking a year out, he flew back onto the music scene with a bang and his songs dominated the charts - all at the same time!

But for one woman, constantly listening to the Lego House singer was becoming a total nightmare. Clare Tidmarsh, a mother-of-five, had to endure round-the-clock Ed Sheeran music in Willenhall, Walsall from her neighbour, Sonia Bryce.

Apparently the straw that broke the camel's back was having to listen to Shape of You on loop for half-an-hour.

It wasn't just Ed Sheeran that offended Tidmarsh. There was also swearing and banging. But really, if she had been listening to something less offensive maybe it wouldn't have been so annoying. Or maybe the swearing and banging was because of the Ed Sheeran music?

It's not Bryce's first disruption offence, so she's been jailed for eight weeks!

It seems a bit harsh - especially as it's taken her away from her kids. Two whole months in prison for playing Ed Sheeran music too much?! World has gone mad. I think Ed Sheeran should personally apologise.

The judge said: "A wholly unacceptable level of disturbance through loud noise involving music, shouting, swearing and banging - time and time again - emanating from Miss Bryce's home."

Bryce maintained that 'she doesn't even like' Sheeran's music. A likely story.

He told Bryce: "You must learn that you should behave as a reasonable and responsible adult, and not make life for your neighbours the misery that you have.

"You have displayed nothing but violent animosity towards your neighbour, and I am quite convinced that you do not care.

"Everybody is entitled to live in a degree of peace and quiet with the usual give and take of society, but you do not behave like a civilised person, and you have got to learn that you will."

Can you imagine what would have happened if she had been playing James Blunt music? She might have gone down for life.

Noise Complaints

Obviously, it's best to get along with your neighbours. You don't need to be as friendly as they are down under, but try not to piss them off. When it comes to parties - if you're not going to invite them, you should at least tell them! And in general, keep it down between 11pm and 7am.

The permitted noise level is around 34 dBA when it comes to neighbours - which is just under conversational speech. So that's pretty low. But you have to admit, it is really annoying to be able to hear everything that goes on in your neighbour's house - especially if they're having a domestic.

According to the government, for the noise to count as a statutory nuisance it must do one of the following:

  • unreasonably and substantially interfere with the use or enjoyment of a home or other premises
  • injure health or be likely to injure health
