Netflix Users Warned About Scam Emails

The emails look convincing but are ran by scammers

Those with Netflix accounts are being warned about an ongoing email scam which is tricking people into handing over their bank details.

Fake Netflix phishing emails, which look pretty legit on first glance, have been doing the rounds for a while and have conned people into passing over their bank details.

On the emails, users are warned they need to update their information or risk losing the streaming service. At the bottom of the email there's a red button marked 'update account now'.

If you click through, you'll be prompted to input your bank details, but the site you're taken to is run by scammers who will then be able to grab your information and do whatever they want with it. Not ideal.

Phishing emails are nothing new, but Action Fraud has issued the warning about this scam on social media earlier today, following a spate of people being conned.

A spokesperson from Action Fraud said: "Watch out for these fake Netflix emails. Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it's a scam.

"Never automatically click on a link in an unexpected email or text."

Action Fraud urges people to keep vigilant when it comes to emails and has a list of signs to watch out for including poor spelling and grammar or 'odd spellings' to help get past a spam filter.

It also recommends checking the email address of the sender, to check that it is actually from the company it claims it is, and never clicking on links in suspicious emails or calling any phone numbers.

If in doubt you can get in touch with the company the email is supposed to be from and ask them if it's real or not, which sounds like a bit of a faff but is infinitely better than having a stranger rip off your bank details.
