If you were finally starting to thaw out from last week's devastating double whammy of the Beast from the East and Storm Emma, have we got news for you.

While the oncoming low-pressure system, affectionately called the 'Pest from the West', isn't supposed to be as bad as last week, it's still forecast to send temperatures plunging and bring a dusting of snow and sleet. Great.

This lovely little storm is expected to hit around 9pm in half of Scotland and virtually all of Northern Ireland. After midnight, it's also expected to start battering most of Wales, England's north-west and the Midlands until about midday tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the two-day weather system, saying: "As ground temperatures fall under clearer skies, there will be a risk of ice formation, especially where remnants of recent snowfalls have been melting.

"Much of the lower ground will see little if any snow accumulating, but 1-3 cm is likely in some places, with 5 cm above 200 metres and possibly 10 cm on roads above 300 metres.

"There remains some uncertainty in the northward extent of the sleet and snow into Thursday morning, before it clears eastwards."

The news will likely devastated people who were hoping Spring was around the corner and I hate to break it to you, it's not.

But in a more optimistic view, let's just say the night is darkest before the dawn - yeah that sounds a lot more positive.

The weather for the next week is expected to be very topsy-turvy, with patches of sunshine mixed with battering rain across much of the UK. The west and south are forecast to get pretty windy as well - so don't pull out your best umbrella.

There are about 1,000 properties still without running water in Wales after Storm Emma's freezing temperatures wreaked havoc on underground pipes.

Welsh Water has opened bottled water stations and is prioritising the most vulnerable people in their efforts to get everything back up and running.

The storm also is being blamed for killing a massive amount of marine life. People were shocked to see thousands of dead starfish was ashore in Kent, with the carcasses spreading for seven miles up the coast.

Look, thankfully the Pest from the West isn't forecast to be as bad as those last two weather systems, but it still means you'll need a decent brolly and your winter gear.
