Bookies Have Slashed Odds For A White Christmas For Parts Of UK

Bookies Have Slashed Odds For A White Christmas For Parts Of UK

If there's one thing us Brits love more than talking about the weather, it's talking about the weather at Christmas - specifically about the possibility of a white Christmas.

Because even though it almost never, ever snows on 25 December in the UK (I think I can recall one time and even then it was more sleet) we still love dreaming of a white Christmas, don't we?

And now, bookies reckon that there's a good chance of snow falling on the big day and have slashed odds to 2/1 for parts of the UK getting blessed with the white stuff on Christmas Day.

Odds of a white Christmas for Glasgow are now at 2/1, Newcastle 3/1, Manchester 5/1 and London at 6/1, according to the Sun.

Experts reckon we could be in for the coldest winter for five years, with freezing air coming over from the North Pole and bringing ice, snow and freezing temperatures with it. Brilliant - can't wait.

The country was hit by a bit of a cold snap today, while you'll have noticed if you were stood on a freezing cold train platform in the early hours of the morning. Gritters have been spotted out on the streets, with frost forming and temperatures dropping to as low as -5C in parts of Scotland.

Seeing the colder weather has already got people thinking of Christmas; a spokesperson from Ladbrokes told the Sun: "We've had a flurry of festive bets, triggered by the coldest night of autumn and a cold winter forecast."

Todd Crawford, a meteorologist from the Weather Company, told the paper: "We expect the coldest winter in the UK since 2012-13.

"This forces the jet stream up to the Arctic and back down into Europe, releasing Arctic high pressure from near the Pole directly into northern Europe, with colder-than-normal temperatures."

The Met Office has said that Scotland won't even need to wait for December to see some snow, with 'dustings of snowfall' a possibility for Scottish peaks.
