It's not everyday you see a knife-wielding man riding through the streets of your town. Never mind watching passersby tackling him to the floor.

Well, in Cardiff you do.

This is the dramatic moment a knifeman is thrown through the air after a pedestrian grabbed him from his getaway bike as he tried to flee police during a city centre chase.

Muaz Tarafdar, 20, flies across the middle of the road, landing on his back, before scrambling up to his feet.

The convicted criminal was smashed to the ground after trying to escape from the scene of a fight outside a hotel in Cardiff.

The video footage was recorded by a bystander on the street and shows Tarafdar cycling away towards a set of traffic lights, before he is knocked down by a man in a blue hoodie, reports the MailOnline.

He gets back up and tries to flee on foot away from the busy junction, but is grounded by another pedestrian, who was crossing the road and tripped him up with his feet.

A police car is then seen braking heavily to stop and catch Tarafdar.

When he was arrested he was found with a large knife in his backpack, according to Wales Online.

At Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Monday Tarafdar pleaded guilty to the possession of a knife blade or sharp article in a public place.

The drug addict, who was spending £10 each day on crack cocaine and is hooked on cannabis, was given a six month prison sentence

During sentencing the court heard a 999 call was initially made following an altercation outside the Mercure Hotel in Newport Road.

A man matching Tarafdar's description was subsequently spotted on CCTV and he was pursued by police before finally being apprehended.

District Judge, Bodfan Jenkins, told him: "You had in your possession a particularly, if not highly, dangerous weapon in very dangerous circumstances.

"In the circumstances of the case this clearly crosses the custody threshold. There can be no reason for suspending the sentence."

Prosecutor, Nia James, told the court her client had a 'significant difficulty with cannabis' and uses 'a joint a day'.

Unemployed Tarafdar's most recent job saw him working in various roles in restaurants two months ago, the court was told.

He was said to have no fixed address but regularly relied on friends to put him up.

It just shows what can happen with a bit of community spirit.
