A 78-year-old man has been arrested after a suspected burglar was 'stabbed to death with a screwdriver during a break in', it's been reported.
The man was arrested on suspicion of GBH while Met Police investigate the fatal incident.
Police were called to a house in Hither Green, south London at around 12.45am on Wednesday.
A spokesperson from the Met Police told the Mirror that it received a call reporting a burglary in progress.
The spokesman said: "The 78-year-old resident had found two males inside his address.
"One suspect went upstairs while the homeowner was forced into the kitchen by the second suspect, armed with a screwdriver.
"A struggle had ensued in the kitchen during which one of the males found inside the property sustained a stab wound to the upper body."
The injured man was taken to hospital but is reported to have died from his injuries at 3.37am.
The 78-year-old homeowner was reported to have bruises on his arms. He remains in custody.
The family of the deceased man have been informed, but he has not been formally identified.
