Nurse's Car Smashed Up After She Abandoned It In Snow To Get To Work

She returned from her shift to find all of the windows put through and the wing mirror hanging off.

There have been a lot of good news stories over the past few days about the dedication of staff working in healthcare. A lot of people have been going above and beyond the call of duty in the horrible weather conditions.

Brave nurses and doctors have been pulling huge shifts and even sleeping at work so as to not leave their patients on their own, some members of hospital staff have been walking to and from their hospitals like some sort of Arctic exploration to make sure that the NHS keeps going.

Unfortunately it's not all good news. One nurse who was forced to abandon her car as a result of the snowy conditions returned to it later to find that some mindless thugs had smashed it up.

Pictures shared by a police officer showed that several windows had been smashed, the windscreen had been put through, and the side mirrors had been ripped off.

The nurse was travelling to work at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth on Saturday and had to leave her car on Blunts Lane, about a mile away from the hospital.

Later that day she returned to her vehicle to find that her Nissan Note had been ruined whilst she was at work.

Photos were shared on Twitter by Police Community Support Officer Adam Bell that showed the extent of the damage.

He said: "Owner of this Nissan Note was trying to get to work at @Derriford_Hosp during the bad weather conditions. Unfortunately she had to abandon her car on Blunts Lane. What she returned to find was THIS!! Outrageous, mindless damage!"

It's difficult to disagree with him. The damage makes even less sense when you consider that the nurse was trying to get to work to help others.

An investigation has been launched into the events and anyone with any information should call Devon and Cornwall Police on 101.

The recent snow, cold weather and high winds have brought chaos to healthcare services across the country. Aside from the efforts of many staff to get in regardless, the armed forces have been called in to assist NHS workers to get to and from work.

Ten people are thought to have died during the cold snap, and roads, schools, and electricity have all been affected.
