A tweet has been sent from the account of Paul Chuckle for the first time since the death of his brother, friend, and performing partner Barry Chuckle this morning.

Barry Chuckle - whose real name was Barry Elliott - was announced to have died this morning by the pair's manager Phil Dale.

At just before midday on Sunday 5 August, Paul Chuckle's account said: "Paul has asked me to send a message to thank EVERYONE for your lovely messages this morning, he is absolutely devastated so unable to respond himself but your messages really do help and he knows Barry would so happy to know how much he was loved, Sue X"

It is thought that the message was written by Paul's wife, Sue Elliott.

Barry was 73 years old at the time of his death. The pair had been in show business together for more than 50 years.

A statement from Phil Dale announcing the sad news said: "It is with great sadness that the family announce that Barry passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Ann and all his family,

"The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have been fans of the Chuckle Brothers and they know that they will share in part the great, great loss they feel."

A quote from Paul Chuckle that accompanied the news said: "I've not just lost my brother, I've lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend."

The Elliott family, which consists of Paul, his two brothers Brian, Jimmy, and Colin, as well as their sister Sheila, also released a statement.

It read: "There will be no further comment at the moment and it would be much appreciated if the privacy of Barry's family is respected at this most difficult time." It went on to pay tribute to how Barry 'leaves 50 years of laughter as his legacy, which is something very special'.

The pair got their break on the TV variety show Opportunity Knocks back in 1967. They worked together for 51 years after that and had their own show on the BBC between 1987 and 2009.

They had recently returned to TV with Channel 5's Chuckle Time.

The pair also recorded music, releasing an album together in the 1990s and appearing in a song called 'To Me, To You (Bruv)' with rapper Tinchy Stryder back in 2014.
