The Queen has confirmed plans for the four-day bank holiday to mark her Platinum Jubilee next year.

Her Majesty will celebrate a whopping 70 years on the throne next year and Brits will enjoy an extra bank holiday.

In a statement, the Royal Family said: "An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.

"The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen's 70 years of service."

A catalogue of events will be put on to commemorate the milestone, including Trooping the Colour, a special service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral, a Platinum Party at the Palace live concert and 'the Big Jubilee Lunch'.

The Big Jubilee Lunch aims to 'bring the Jubilee celebrations into the heart of every community', according to a statement.

It goes on: "People are invited to share friendship, food and fun with neighbours as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

"A Big Jubilee Lunch can be big or small - street party or picnic, tea and cake or a garden barbeque.

"The Big Lunch provides tips and ideas for hosting an event."

The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has promised a 'celebration to remember', while the government has promised a schedule of events to recognise the milestone, and to 'reflect on the monarch's reign, and her impact on the UK and the world since 1952'.

Speaking last year, Dowden said: "Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee will be a truly historic moment - and one that deserves a celebration to remember.

"We can all look forward to a special, four-day Jubilee weekend, when we will put on a spectacular, once-in-a-generation show that mixes the best of British ceremonial splendour with cutting edge art and technology.

"It will bring the entire nation and the Commonwealth together in a fitting tribute to Her Majesty's reign."

But of course if none of that tickles your fancy, you can just go the pub with your mates.
