Love Island is a series famed for its on-screen drama, but now the ITV reality show is causing ructions beyond the screen too.

Police were scrambled to an address in Barlestone following reports of a disturbance, and upon arrival were confronted by a standoff between a furious 11-year-old girl and her parents, who were refusing to let her watch the show.

The frantic caller claimed to have been threatened with violence and a spokesman for Leicestershire Police confirmed that a 'public disorder incident' had been reported.

On its Facebook page, Market Bosworth Police reported: "Colleagues from 'PRT' (Patrol and Resolution Team) have just popped in to the office after dealing with an 'incident' in Barlestone where an 11 year old girl 'kicked off' because she wasn't allowed to watch #loveisland.

"Due to the information passed by the caller, this was risk assessed and graded as a 'grade one' - which means they attended as an emergency on blues and twos.

"True story."

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comment section, criticising the parents for wasting police time amongst other things.

"So what has happened to parenting? It's bad enough to argue with your children about TV programmes but to call the police. This is the rubbish on TV that has got control of some of the public. Very sad!" wrote one Facebook user.

Another person commented: "Parents need a bill for that. Imagine their shock. 'Thank you for you call - in order to dispatch the requested vehicle we will require your debit card details and the sum of £***, immediately transfered to 999 account' Yeh right, tata!"

Meanwhile, a third simply suggested: "I think you should arrest anyone that watches Love Island."

The incident is just one example of the utter madness caused by the spate of Love Island-mania currently engulfing the entire nation.

Over in Russia for the World Cup, England stars are reportedly requesting ITV2 in their hotel rooms so that they can keep up with the reality TV show in between games.

Danny Rose and Fabien Delph are among the squad members currently engrossed in the action.

Boss Gareth Southgate is keen for players to enjoy some home comforts and feel relaxed ahead of their match against Tunisia on 18 June.

Tomorrow's game with Tunisia will be England's first of the 2018 Russia Cup, followed by group stage fixtures against Panama and then Belgium.
