Reports suggest that Theresa May has ordered submarines to head towards Syria ahead of potential air strikes.

This suggests that Britain might be about to join United States forces in their retaliation against the Syrian government of Bashar Al-Assad.

According to the Daily Telegraph the attacks could begin as early as Thursday night.

A Government source suggested that Britain would be doing "everything necessary" to get submarines within range of being able to launch Tomahawk cruiser missiles at targets in Syria.

This follows an alleged chemical attack by Assad's Syrian Army forces on the city of Douma.

The attack is said to have killed at least 40 people including children. The Prime Minister will hold an emergency Cabinet meeting after "all the indications" pointed towards Al-Assad's involvement in the horrific chemical attack.

Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Corbyn argued recently that Parliament should be given their say on Britain's involvement in any potential military strikes in Syria.

He told the BBC: "Parliament should always be given a say on military action,

"Obviously the situation is very serious, obviously there has to be, now, a demand for a political process to end the war in Syria.

"We cannot risk an escalation even further than it's gone already."

He continued: "What happened last weekend was terrible.

"What we don't want is bombardment which leads to escalation and leads to a hot war between Russia and America over the skies of Syria."

US President Donald Trump has warned of attacks from the American forces after the chemical attack. He also sent a warning to Russian forces who are acting in support of Assad's regime on Twitter.

The President tweeted: "Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and "smart!" You shouldn't be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!"

Earlier on Tuesday the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin had said: "If there is a strike by the Americans, the missiles will be downed,"

After Trumps tweets a spokesperson for the White House clarified his statements officially. Sarah Sanders told reporters that: "a number of options at his disposal and a number remain on the table", but she then added: "We haven't laid out any specific actions we plan to take."

It is thought that Theresa May will ask Donald Trump to wait until Parliament has been consulted before launching any assault.
