Poll Reveals The Sexiest And Least Sexy Accents In The UK

It's bad news for the English, but good news if you're Sir Tom Jones

For such a small group of countries, there's a whole load of variation in the British accent. Even within a small space there are many different twangs, full of character and each as unique as the last one that you heard.

But - and here's the important question - which variant is the sexiest? That's the question on everyone's lips.

Well, it's not The Rock's English accent. That's a dead cert. He'll never get that role in Poldark.

Thanks to a poll run by the Mirror we've now got a decent sample of votes towards making a decision on that. Let me tell you, it's not even close.

Firstly, it ain't good news if you're English.

The top three all come from the other countries that make up the United Kingdom. Wales comes out on top with a huge portion of the vote - 38 percent overall.

Look at him, he knows...

That's not too far off being half the overall vote, meaning that the British public - or at least those who vote in online polls - find the Welsh accent better than all others.

Like many votes in recent memory, that's perhaps a surprising outcome and it might not be the one you wanted, but GODDAMMIT that's the result, the people have spoken. You lost. Get over it.

Unless you're Welsh, of course. In that case, well done - I think?

In second place, here come the Scots. Perhaps that's just riding off the back of Richard Madden's character in the recently concluded Bodyguard, or perhaps it's a longer held opinion.

Sound good? Aye right he does.

Third up, it's the Northern Irish accent. You'd have to suspect that the voters had Jamie Dornan in mind rather than Rory McIlroy, but whatever.

Top of the pops in England, perhaps less surprisingly, is the Geordie accent. There is something quite relaxing about it, I guess.

Then it's the Scouse and Cockney accents - well, Danny Dyer does have a certain roguish charm, and who doesn't love Danielle Lloyd?

Just me? Well, you can all continue living a lie if you like.

Carrying on down, there is an unexpected seventh placing for Norfolk, followed up by the West Country, Yorkshire, and the 'Queen's English'.

Imagine trying to be sexy in the West Country accent. Seriously, voters.

Proving that Peaky Blinders isn't as hot as it thinks it is, Birmingham places down in 11th, followed by Essex (seriously?).

Down the final places on the vote - sorry guys - are Lancashire and Manchester. That's right, the Manc accent is the least sexy according to voters in this particular poll.

Yeah, OK. That's spot on.

Well, with the most recognisable proponents being the Gallagher brothers and Karl Pilkington, even speaking as a Mancunian, perhaps they've got a point.
