During a visit to Birkenhead, Prince Harry showed us exactly why he's one of the nation's favourite royals and one of our favourite gingers.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to Merseyside for a day of royal engagements, they took time to speak to members of the crowds that had gathered to see them.

There was one person that Prince Harry spotted right away in the crowd, four-year-old Eliza Morris.

Eliza was holding a sign that clearly resonated with the 34-year-old father-to-be, one that said: "Gingers Unite - I love you Harry."

The Prince went over to the little girl and, according to journalist Rebecca English, he said to her: "I love this! Do you love your hair, the sign is amazing!"

He went on to give the little girl a hug - something that isn't typical of standard protocol, but common for the Prince and Meghan to do when out and about meeting people.

This comes after the UK celebrated 'Kiss a ginger' day, with Harry being one of the nation's, if not the world's, favourite red heads.

The Duke and Duchess were said to have spent more than 45 minutes speaking to people in the crowd - with Meghan being present with flowers and even a giant teddy bear.

Before heading out to meet the crowds, as part of their royal engagements the pair visited various spots in the area.

One place they headed to was a sculpture which was completed in November 2018 to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of the WW1 war poet, Wilfred Owen.

Next up the couple met local veterans and members of the Birkenhead Institute Old Boys, following unveiling a plaque.

This is the Duke and Duchess' first public appearance together since attending church with other members of the Royal Family at Christmas.

Though they only got married last year, this is a big year for the pair as they are expecting their first child together.
