Radio Host Tells Insulate Britain Protester 'You Can Grow Concrete'

The conversation was awkward from start to finish

As you've probably noticed, Insulate Britain protesters have been causing quite a stir across the country.

The group - which wants the Government to insulate all UK homes by 2030 to cut carbon emissions - has been staging protests for weeks, blocking major roads and refusing to move.

Naturally, this has created quite a lot of tension, so talkRADIO host Mike Graham decided he'd try and thrash it out with spokesperson for the group, Cameron Ford - but it didn't quite go to plan.

The glorious interview has gone viral.

The conversation was awkward from the off, with Mike asking Cameron what he was glued to, in reference to some activists gluing themselves to roads.

"Just your screen, unfortunately," Cameron replied.

After establishing that Cameron is a carpenter, Mike asked: "Well, how safe is that for the climate?"

To which Cameron replied: "I work with timber, which is a much more sustainable material, rather than concrete..."

Interjecting, Mike queried: "But you work with trees that have been cut down then, don't you?"

Cameron responded: "It's a sustainable building practice."

"How is it sustainable if you're killing trees?" Mike asked.

"Because it's regenerative," Cameron said. "You can grow trees."

After a short pause, Mike argued: "You can grow all sorts of things, can't you?"

And it was with that odd open-ended retort that the debate descended into a farce.

Cameron replied: "Well, you can't grow concrete."

But unflinchingly, Mike responded 'yeah you can', prompting a seemingly never-ending awkward silence.

Mike eventually accepted the conversation had well and truly broken down. Moving things along, he said: "Seeya Cameron, cheerio. That was Cameron, he grows trees and then cuts them down and then makes things from them.

"Brilliant. Marvellous. I don't think I ever want to talk to any of those people."

Naturally, the interview has gone viral.

"You think this interview has peaked when the guest explains 'you can plant trees' but it hasn't," comedian James Felton joked.

"A funnier minute of self-owning radio you will not hear today," a second person said.

"This is one of the most bizarre interviews I've seen for a while. It's like something out a sketch show," a third laughed.

"'Concrete jungle' is just a phrase, you know..." quipped a fourth.
