A drug dealer has become an unlikely online sensation after his mugshot was posted on Twitter by police, having attracted the attention of social media users for his apparent good looks.

Derbyshire Police tweeted a press release about a recent drugs bust, writing: "Albanian led drugs gang jailed after web of cannabis grows busted in raids across the UK."

The force said gang leader Egi Tafa, 24, and his 'right-hand man' Mevlan Koci, 29, had teamed up with Derby-based dealer Stephen Perry, 29, to produce 'hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis'.

All three were jailed for their part in the operation, along with Callum Clarke, 31, and Brett Simpson, 29, while four others had also been sentenced at previous hearings.

But many people weren't interested in the story itself, having been slightly distracted by one of the men pictured.

It turns out people are 'thirsty as hell' for Perry, whose mugshot is third along on the top row, with some people even sharing the hashtag #FreeStephenPerry.

One person commented: "Stephen Perry ........ ohhh my days lol."

Someone else said: "You can imprison Stephen in my bedroom if the prisons are full, just saying..."

A third wrote: "Phwoar Stephen."

One person tagged their friend, who simply replied: "What a waste."

Others expressed their interest in writing to Perry or even visiting him in prison, with one saying: "How do I go about gaining a visitors permit for Stephen please? Asking for a friend."

Another joked: "Maybe that 'write a letter to a prisoner' thing is worth a shot."

In its statement, Derbyshire Police said: "An Albanian-led drugs gang has been jailed after its web of cannabis grows were busted in raids across the country.

"During a series of coordinated raids in Doncaster, Mansfield, Nottingham, King's Lynn, Birmingham and Sandiacre last year - cannabis with a street value estimated at more than £500,000 was discovered.

"Officers were led to the addresses after months of investigation into the gang led by Albanian gang leader Egi Tafa.

"The 24-year-old, along with right-hand man Mevlan Koci, teamed up with Derby-based drug dealer Stephen Perry to produce hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis.

"The drugs were grown by a team of Albanian gardeners who tended to the drugs in properties across the UK.

"The drugs, once cultivated, were then supplied to Midlands-based dealers Brett Simpson and Callum Clarke who then sold to users across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Staffordshire."
