A video clip shows a shockingly long queue at a food bank in London, where 785 families were served in a space of just two hours on 6 March. Watch below:

The socially-distanced line stretched several hundred metres along two streets, outside the food bank at the Brent Indian Association on Ealing Road in Wembley.

Time lapse footage was filmed by Mumtaz Khan, from London's Community Kitchen, to show just how many people were queuing to receive help.

The clip begins at the back of the long line on Chaplin Road, before moving towards the food bank.

London's Community Kitchen said workers ended up serving a total of 785 families in just two hours that day.

In a live stream on Facebook, the organisation said: "On a very cold Saturday morning we are here to serve this community living in food insecurity. The queues don't alarm us anymore. [It] has become something like the norm."

Many Facebook users commented on the video to praise the charity for its work, with one writing: "What an extraordinary operation run by some obviously very committed volunteers but shameful that so many people are dependent on food parcels."

se wrote: "Hats off to the volunteers! I know some have now been there 7 days a week throughout from the first lockdown!"

A third added: "Crazy and alarming how long the queues are. You're all doing a vital and amazing job."

Established in 2014, London's Community Kitchen is an organisation that 'promotes zero waste and zero hunger'.

Its website says: "Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks.

"London's Community Kitchen emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words.

"Established in 2014, we're a group of like minded people that wish to see a more environmentally conscious community, driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support."

According to MyLondon, the organisation has seen queues as long as 2km following a spike in demand.

Khan, 45, said queues started to increase dramatically three months ago, and the charity believes they are sadly now the longest in the UK.

Speaking to MyLondon, he said: "This is just monstrous. We should be expecting 1,000 people this week.

"There is no food project in the country doing this no way is this happening on this scale.

"People are seriously struggling. 800 families are queuing every single Saturday."

Khan, a former Michelin star chef, added: "That is every week for us. That's just the way things are."
