A soldier has been thrown from his horse during the Queen's birthday celebrations.

Major Niall Hall, Regimental Adjutant of the Irish Guards, was thrown from his horse during a parade in front of Her Majesty at Whitehall this morning.

The horse then half fell on top of Major Hall.

Concerned spectators looked on as Major Hall received medical assistance and was taken away in a stretcher.

He is now being treated in hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman told LADbible: "Major Hall was dismounted on today's Queen's Birthday Parade.

"He was immediately treated by a medical team and taken to hospital."

At last year's Trooping the Colour parade Field Marshal Lord Guthrie also fell off his horse while riding down The Mall.

Today (Saturday) marks the Queen's official birthday, her actual birthday was in April, when she turned 93.

The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are all in attendance at today's parade. This is actually the latter Duchess' first public appearance since she gave birth to Archie four weeks ago.

There's also a whole host of royal colonels riding on horseback, namely the Prince of Wales, colonel of the Welsh Guards, the Princess Royal, colonel of the Blues and Royals, the Duke of Cambridge, colonel of the Irish Guards and the Duke of York and colonel of the Grenadier Guards.

The Duke of Edinburgh is not in attendance, as he has retired from official public duties - which is fair enough really given the bloke turns 98 on Monday.

Theresa May was also in attendance as a guest, having stepped down as prime minister yesterday (Friday) - though she will remain in 10 Downing Street until a successor is appointed in July.

Trooping the Colour as a celebration of the sovereign's birthday has been going on for more than 250 years now. It started out as a traditional preparation for battle, whereas nowadays it's just a bit of a jolly day out.

During 2017's Trooping the Colour, a soldier was filmed collapsing. In all, five Guardsman were stretchered off over the course of the ceremony as temperatures were 29C... No such problems this year.
