Police Want To Speak With The Bloke Who Filmed Jamie Carragher Spitting

Police Want To Speak With The Bloke Who Filmed Jamie Carragher Spitting

But the driver says he doesn't want to see Jamie lose his job at Sky Sports for a momentary lapse in behaviour

It's the video that has divided the UK.

Some people are disgusted at Jamie Carragher for spitting, while others think the bloke who goaded the former England footballer and filmed the incident while driving isn't much better.

The 40-year-old sports commentator is certainly copping a lot of flak for the move, both professionally and personally.

But as the spotlight continues to focus on him, authorities are looking at the guy who captured the footage on his phone.

The Mirror reports police are expected to speak to the motorist about using his phone while driving. Greater Manchester Police reportedly aren't likely to slap the usual £200 fine and six penalty points and instead will offer 'advice'.

But the AA is calling for the two men to go on driving awareness courses so they can realise that, funnily enough, spitting and filming don't go hand in hand with cars. Who'd have thought.

Carragher appeared on Sky News yesterday as the story was gathering momentum to plead for forgiveness.

"You can't condone that behaviour. No matter what the circumstances, you cannot ever behave like that, it is just unacceptable," he said.

"There is no doubt what I have done is disgusting. I apologise for it.

"Watching those clips back it feels like an out-of-body thing, that moment of madness for four or five seconds."

Interestingly, the victim's family don't want the 40-year-old to lose his job at Sky.

You could clearly hear the 14-year-old girl who was spat on was upset after the incident and didn't sound particularly pleased at her dad's efforts.

The father has told the Mirror: "We don't want him to lose his job. It is not about that. We wanted an apology and explanation. He seems contrite. Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human."

His wife added: "He did seem extremely sorry."

Despite this, Sky Sports has made efforts to distance itself from the former England international, at least until the heat dies down.

He was noticeably absent from the Monday Night Football programme, with the network releasing a statement saying he had been suspended but not dumped.

Sports Minister Tracey Crouch added: "Spitting is disgusting. Sky are right to have taken the decision they have."

Who knows what will happened in the weeks and months after this incident, Jamie might be given his job back or, as Vinny Jones suggested yesterday, he might be headed to the job centre.
