The weather's all we can talk about in the UK at the moment, and while the worst of the storm is over, Storm Emma won't be releasing its grip on Britain yet.

Parts of the UK are set to be coated with up to 50cm of snow today as the storm continues the late winter snap that has caused havoc across the nation all week.

Last night's rare red weather warning has now been replaced by amber and yellow weather warnings due to snow, wind and ice, but meteorologists are urging people to stay aware.

Transport across the UK has come to a standstill as a result of the snow with roads, railways and airports all being affected for the third day in a row, the BBC reported earlier today.

Thousands of schools across the country have also been closed, meaning tons of kids are probably having plenty of fun - although possibly not those students at the school where touching snow is banned.

While the conditions have let up ever so slightly, experts are still urging people not to travel unless absolutely necessary due to delays and the lingering risks posed by snow and black ice.

Drivers across the UK are still stranded on the roads, while last night in south-west England police were forced to call in the help of the army to rescue drivers trapped on the A31 in Hampshire.

Traffic on the motorway is now moving again, although police are clearing trapped traffic and recovering abandoned vehicles in what they have described as a 'major incident'.

Tragically, the wintry bombardment over the past few days has led to several people losing their lives, including a seven-year-old girl after a car crashed into a house in Cornwall.

One elderly woman was found dead under a car in Leeds, while another man died after his van crashed into a lorry near Tot Hill services in Berkshire.

Meanwhile, one woman was forced to give birth to a baby girl in a car at the side of the road in County Durham after the parents realised they wouldn't get to the hospital in time.

Weather warnings issued by the Met Office, the UK's official weather service, are not set to expire until 11.55pm on Monday, so take care this weekend. A night out on the lash isn't worth losing your life.
