A court in Carlisle has heard how a young mum stabbed her 'on-off boyfriend' multiple times after 'covering his face with a pillow during sex'.

Zoe Adams, 19, has been described as 'obsessed with murder and male sacrifice' and was fascinated by serial killers, the jury were told.

She is accused of stabbing 18-year-old fantasy novelist Kieran Bewick in the chest, arm and thigh with a 10-inch knife as they were having sex. Adams was also made up to look like a clown and is alleged to have said 'trust me' before stabbing her lover.

A barrister read aloud a passage from Bewick's book, a dark fantasy novel called 'Ascendance' in which a character says: "I knelt on Greg's chest, with my blade positioned carefully at his heart."

Adams was found to have a copy of the book given to her by Bewick, but claims she has not read it.

The court then heard a police interview given by Bewick in which he described the incident.

Bewick - who is afraid of clowns - told of how she appeared in their bedroom in full clown make-up. He said: "She said 'does this scare you?' and I said 'No, can you go and wash it off?'.

"She was just standing there staring at me and I kept repeating 'can you go and wash it off'.

"She had diamond eyes, and a Joker mouth, with red lipstick on the lips, and she had her hands behind her back.

"She had a weird smirk on her face."

Adams is alleged to have joked about being 'the Kieran killer' before she attacked him.

He continued: "She asked again 'Can I tie you to the bed?' I said no, and then she said 'put the pillow over your face then it is kinkier that way.

"So, I put the pillow on my head. She had been tracing with her finger on my chest and asked, 'do you really love me?'

"I said 'yes'. She said: 'Do you really want me?' I said 'Yes'. She put her hand behind her back, I thought that she had my phone.

"She said 'put the pillow back on your face, trust me'. That's when she stabbed me. I did not feel pain, but I felt the bleeding. I felt my lung pop and squirt blood."

After the attack, Bewick fled the house and began to run down the street, where he encountered Adams' aunt, who he told of the assault.

The court was also reportedly shown text messages sent between the two that discussed Adams' fantasies about tying men up and using them as human sacrifices.

Cumbria Police's Detective Constable Calvin Greaves told the jury that they had found a number of images on Adams' phone that he described as 'highly concerning'.

The images included a photo of genitals that were surrounded by blood.

Adams claims to have no memory of the events and said: "I did stab him - but I overreacted." She also claims that the knife under her pillow that she used to stab him was for protection.

She continued: "I don't remember holding the knife - or using it."

The case continues.
