Slap on the factor 50 and get yourself to the nearest beer garden with a big screen, because today is set to be the hottest day of the year.

In what I can only assume is a good omen, football fans could get to enjoy watching the match in temperatures of up to 33C, making today the hottest day of the year, topping previous highs of 32C.

Much like England in the World Cup, the current heatwave is showing no sign of leaving anytime soon, with forecasters predicting warmer weather today than yesterday which was a scorcher.

Sophie Yeomans from the Met Office told the Sun: "I think we'll probably reach above 32C in England. It's absolutely possible.

"It's going to be clear blue skies ahead, with perhaps a little patchy cloud in the afternoon."

Of course, the searing temperatures come with a warning and the Met Office advises that if you are out and about today, you spend time in the shade when the sun is hottest - between 11am and 3pm and that you slather on the sunscreen regularly.

The lovely weather could be bad news for hay fever sufferers, too, as the Met Office warns that pollen levels are very high.

And it's been a nightmare for one group of bin men who found the tarmac beneath their bin lorry had melted, causing the lorry to get stuck.

A spokesperson for Veolia, who operate the dustbin collections in West Berkshire, said: "We are aware of an incident in at Old Bath Road near Strawberry Hill, Newbury, where a Veolia vehicle had been trapped.

"The crew are safe and no one was injured.

"We are working at the scene with the emergency services and West Berkshire Council Highway team, to assess the vehicle following its recovery."

I mean, there's hot and then there's 'the road is bloody melting' hot. But let's not moan too much, it'll be grey and miserable again before you know it.
