A toddler was left looking like 'the girl from The Exorcist' after she went rogue with a felt tip and coloured the inside of her mouth black.

Two-year-old Juniper Ellis made her way into her playroom while her mum Bekki Pope finished her lunch on 2 March.

But when Bekki realised that Juniper was being suspiciously quiet, two minutes later she ran in to show off her masterpiece.

To 34-year-old Bekki's horror, she'd coloured her lips, her tongue and the inside of her mouth completely black, leaving her with a lovely demonic look.

Bekki's partner Simon, 38, picked her up, before Bekki took the photo of her daughter and her handiwork.

But instead of receiving critical acclaim for her work, Juniper was pinned down for half an hour while her parents scrubbed her face clean, before receiving an indefinite felt tip ban, until she can be trusted again.

Bekki, from Saffron Walden, Essex, said: "I had a heart attack when I saw her - there was that momentary panic of 'what the hell has happened?'

"It looked like she had black lipstick on. Initially I thought it was just her lips and then she said, 'Mummy look, I've drawn on my tongue.'

"We got her to stick her tongue out and saw that she'd properly blackened everything inside her mouth - her gums, the inside of her cheeks, her teeth and lips.

"I panicked at first but then saw that they were kid-safe non-toxic ones.

"She looked like something from The Exorcist or the girl in The Ring, it was really creepy. Equally I can see why people thought she was mid-way eating some sort of rodent.

"My son then said she had a black tongue like the Gruffalo so he was wetting himself calling her that.

"Simon and I went through a whole pack of wipes trying to get it off her tongue, gums and the inside of her cheeks, her teeth and her lips.

"It took us about half an hour to get it off."

Bekki grew suspicious when she realised she hadn't heard from her daughter for a couple of minutes.

She added: "When kids are quiet it's dangerous - that was when we knew there was trouble.

"I said to Simon, 'Juniper's really quiet, where is she?' and he replied, 'Yeah, a bit too quiet.'

"We only took our eyes off her for two minutes, turned around and she walked towards us and I could see her black mouth and was like, 'What on earth?'

"She managed to do all that in a ridiculously short amount of time.

"She was very pleased with herself and wanted us to be full of praise. She was disgusted that we were not congratulating her. It wasn't the reaction she was going for."

Bekki shared the hilarious snap online, with the post racking up more than 1,300 likes, shares and comments.
