Police in Kent are hunting for a clown who chased two terrified teenagers with a bat on Wednesday night.

The clown was reportedly wearing a half-mask, red wig, 'clown top' and some black trousers with red trainers when he approached the two teenage boys as they made their way through an underpass in Chalkwell, Sittingbourne.

According to the Kent Messenger, the clown began 'laughing and banging his wooden bat', before breaking into a run and chasing the two boys.

The mother of one of the teens, who did not want to be named, told the paper: "As the boys reached an underpass the clown sat on the floor, laughing and banging his wooden bat.

"My son was really shook up and upset."

They have since gone to the police to report the incident.

A spokesperson from Kent Police told the news outlet: "We received a report that two teenage boys were approached by a person dressed as a clown in Gadby Road, Sittingbourne, between 8pm and 8.20pm last night.

"The boys had left the area but a search by officers didn't find a suspect matching the description.

"Inquiries to establish the circumstances around the incident remain ongoing."

The incident has sparked concerns that the weird 'killer clown' craze is sparking up once again.

Local councillor James Hunt, added: "This was happening last year coming up to Halloween, as was something going around on YouTube. I hope it's not something starting again."

Stories of people dressed as clowns and popping out and scaring people first popped up in 2016, then last autumn, as the movie It was released, it started back up again.

This isn't the first such report of this year, either - two boys near Dartford, Kent, reported being chased by a clown who told them 'run or die', while 'carrying a knife'.

The boys were out cycling in the woods when they were approached by the clown who they claim was 'carrying something like a knife'.

The pair sped off on their bikes and told their parents about the clown, who called police.

A spokesperson from Kent Police told the Mirror: "We were called at 6.46pm on September 14 to a report of a person dressed as a clown in Tile Kiln Lane.

"Patrols in the area were advised of the incident but no person matching the description was seen."
