Brits are set to get a four-day bank holiday weekend next June to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

In June 2022, the usual spring bank holiday - that is normally at the end of May - is moved to Thursday 2 June while Friday 3 June is the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday, giving us all a nice four-day weekend.

The move is to mark Queen Elizabeth's 70th year on the throne - the first time any British monarch has hit their seventh decade of rule.

The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has promised a 'celebration to remember', while the government has promised a schedule of events to recognise the milestone, and to 'reflect on the monarch's reign, and her impact on the UK and the world since 1952'.

Speaking last year, Dowden said: "Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee will be a truly historic moment - and one that deserves a celebration to remember.

"We can all look forward to a special, four-day Jubilee weekend, when we will put on a spectacular, once-in-a-generation show that mixes the best of British ceremonial splendour with cutting edge art and technology.

"It will bring the entire nation and the Commonwealth together in a fitting tribute to Her Majesty's reign."

And if none of that tickles your fancy you can just go to the pub with your mates.

While a four-day bank holiday weekend is in the pipeline for next year, many people have been calling on the government to announce an extra one this year - on 21 June, the date that all lockdown restrictions could be eased.

Although it's still subject to change, Johnson announced that 21 June is the earliest date we could see all restrictions on social contact removed and plenty of people think that's something worth celebrating.

Posting on Twitter, one person wrote: "June 21st should be a bank holiday if you ask me."

Another tweeted Johnson to say: "@BorisJohnson what do you think about declaring the 21st of June, a NATIONAL Bank Holiday? I think it makes perfect sense."

While a third posted: "They may as well make the 21st June a bank holiday 'cause no ones going work are they?"

Others are hoping it could become a more permanent thing, with one woman posting: "So if the road map goes to plan why don't we forever more make 21st June a bank holiday - to reflect each year on the dark days we all went through, to remember the ones who died of this horrible virus and to embrace our friends and family again."

Sounds good to me.
