Getting your driver's licence is a monumental occasion. But if you're still only 17 when you pass your test, it's understandable that your parents might be a little anxious about you driving alone - especially if it's been snowing and the roads are treacherous as a result.

That, presumably, is why 17-year-old Amy Emslie's mother asked her daughter how she was getting on driving in the snow.

Amy, who's from Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, shared her mum's message - and her response to it - on Twitter:

The sixth form student's response was a masterstroke of comedic genius - and something of an understatement. It turns out Amy, who had only recently passed her driving test, slid on ice and came off the road. Her car ended up upside-down.

Of course, this wouldn't be funny in the slightest if Amy had been hurt, but thankfully she was unhurt beyond a couple of scrapes and bruises.

On the plus side, Amy's tweet has gone viral - it's since been retweeted more than 9,000 times.

According to the Sun, Amy said she hadn't told her mum about the crash because she didn't want to worry her.

"My mum had been on holiday for the past week and so I hadn't told her about the crash," she said, "so it was ironic when she texted me asking how my driving had been getting on."

"I hadn't realised how icy the roads were that morning and it was the first corner I'd came to. As I was going round the corner I hit black ice.

"The car skidded to the right hand side of the road first and then spun and skidded back to the left."

She continued: "It felt like it was going in slow motion when it was happening. I just was thinking how much I wanted it to stop, and I couldn't believe that I'd actually just crashed my car.

"The car has been written off I'm gutted as I live in the countryside and hadn't been passed for very long."

Still, we're glad she managed to have a sense of humour about the whole thing.
