Wetherspoons Everywhere Are Reducing Prices Massively For One Day Only

There's an interesting reason why.

What a day it is to be alive. It's Friday, it's only a few hours hours before we can get out of work to get on the sesh and it's just been announced that Spoons is going to be lowering its prices drastically later this month.

The chain, already legendary for its pound-shop pints, will be cutting them even more on September 20. So if you feel like following in the footsteps of 1000+ Wetherspoon connoisseur Mags Thomson and visiting up to a dozen in a day, then that's the time to do it.

You'll get 7.5% off any food and drink you buy and there's an interesting reason why.

JD Wetherspoon is joining thousands of other businesses across the UK in support of Tax Equality Day.

This is because pubs and restaurants are bound by law to charge 20% VAT on all food and drink that they flog, whereas supermarkets are not bound by the same requirement - in fact they pay no VAT at all.

Wetherspoon's chairman, Tim Martin, said: "We are proud to support the campaign to reduce the level of VAT in the pub industry.

"On Tax Equality Day, customers in our pubs will find the price of their drinks and food to be lower than normal. We are keen to highlight the amount which customers would save, if VAT in pubs were lowered permanently.

"So, for example, the total price of a meal and drinks, for a customer, would be reduced from £10 to £9.25 on Tax Equality Day.

"A reduction in the level of VAT, on a long-term basis, will generate growth and create jobs in the important leisure and hospitality sector.

"Creating tax equality among pubs, restaurants and supermarkets will fulfil many government objectives.

"It will create more jobs and raise the amount of taxes which the government receives, since pubs and restaurants pay more taxes and create more jobs than supermarkets do.

"It is a win-win situation for the government and our industry."

Fuck the politics, just get me a cheap pint of Foster's.
