As more regions into the Tier 3 restrictions - the strictest - one elderly woman has announced she doesn't 'give a sod' about the new rules.

The unnamed 83-year-old woman was stopped in Barnsley by the BBC to give her opinions on the city going into Tier 3 this weekend and she didn't mince her words.

She said: "I think it's all ridiculous, we should never have been in lockdown.

"All the people who were vulnerable should have been helped and kept home safe. And all the rest of us, I'm 83, I don't give a sod.

"I look at it this way, I've not got all that many years left of me and I'm not going to be fastened in a house when the government have got it all wrong.

"We need... how can we get the country on its feet? Money-wise? Where's all the money?

"By the end of this year there's going to be millions of people unemployed and you know who's going to pay for it? All the young ones. Not me because I'm going to be dead."

A clip of the woman, shared by BBC Yorkshire has racked up almost 40,000 likes and has been retweeted more than 12,000 times.

The woman's opinions have proved divisive with social media users, as some praised her 'common sense' attitude and other blasted her for being 'selfish' and not following the science.

One person wrote: "So she's 83 and can be selfish by exposing herself and others, put more pressure on the NHS? Because she's earned the right to not give a damn about others."

While another praised her, posting: "Brilliant Yorkshire common sense. Well said, madam."

Whether this lady likes it or not, South Yorkshire's Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield will be moving into Tier 3 at midnight on Saturday - Liverpool, Lancashire and Greater Manchester are also in Tier 3.

The restrictions include a ban on the mixings of households indoors or outdoors as well as the closure of pubs and bars, unless they're selling 'substantial meals' alongside their alcoholic offerings.

In South Yorkshire casinos, bingos and soft-play centres will also close.

South Yorkshire has secured a £41million deal, which will be used for contact tracing, business support and enforcement.

Sheffield City mayor Dan Jarvis, who agreed to the move into Tier 3, said 'inaction was not an option' after seeing a sharp rise in patients admitted to hospitals in Sheffield with coid-19.

Jarvis said admissions had doubled over 10 days.
