We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and there is certainly some truth in that. However, it's also important to not go overboard unless you want to be asleep under a desk before lunch.

Now, without trying to sound like a nutritional expert, it's fair to say that a balanced breakfast probably doesn't include eight sausages, eight eggs, eight rashers of bacon, eight hash browns, eight pieces of toast, baked beans and tomatoes, and a mug of coffee or tea.

Shepherd's Place Farm Cafe

Despite the best advice of doctors, cardiologists, and personal trainers everywhere, punters are still tipping up to the Shepherd's Place Farm Café in Haxey, near Doncaster, to take on this massive brekkie.

It's called the Terminator 2 and it represents one of the more significant fry-up challenges that you can accept in the wider Yorkshire area.

The gauntlet has been thrown down by the farm owner Ted Phillips and he says that intrepid breakfast warriors have been travelling from all across the north of England to take on the Full English to end all Full Englishes.

For all that you get, it's pretty reasonable too. For the modest outlay of 15 quid you can get as much rapidly congealing farm produce as you can carry home (let's face it, for most people this is more than a week's worth of breakfast).

A frankly pathetic effort.

If you've already decided that this particular challenge isn't for you, you can also attempt it's little brother which, you've guessed it, is simply called The Terminator.

It's basically the same, but divided by half. Still a mighty meal and probably more bacon, sausages, and eggs than your arteries would thank you for eating.

Ted told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "People were managing to complete the Terminator challenge so we thought we'd give them something to really have a go at.

"We started serving it a few weeks ago but no-one has managed to finish it yet."

If you're interested, the prize for finishing the whole lot is that you will have your name added to the café's Wall of Fame. The coveted 1st spot on the wall is enough to keep people coming back, surely?

It's an equal opportunities beast too. You might think that it's just peole with huge appetites that have tried to tackle the beast, but Ted says you'd be wrong.

He continued: "It's not just the big lads having a go, there's plenty of women up for the challenge too."

If eating competitions are your bag, the success of the Terminator challenges has spurred the café on to staging a whole day of events called Judgement Day. There will be different challenges, prizes will be awarded, you get the drift.

As a wise doctor once said, a balanced diet can include the occasional eating contest.
