You Can Now Order Pizza From Sainsbury's On Deliveroo

Pizza - Movement = Happiness/Obesity

These days, when it comes to getting pizzas delivered to our doors, we are truly spoilt for choice.

However, Sainsbury's evidently fancies a slice of the action, having become the first UK supermarket to offer hot takeaways via Deliveroo.

Sainsbury's has become the first UK supermarket to deliver hot takeaways via Deliveroo.

As well as freshly baked sourdough pizzas - including Margherita, Meat Feast and Pepperoni - customers will be able to choose from almost 50 different sweet and savoury snacks, such as sides, salads and dips.

You'll be able to order your meal on the app just like any other takeaway - so basically, Sainsbury's is now a takeaway, sort of.

If you're thinking this is too good to be true, then you're right... and if you weren't thinking this was too good to be true, then sorry, you're wrong.

The service has only been rolled out in five stores across four cities as part of a two month trial, so unless you live in Birmingham, Brighton, Cambridge or London, I'm afraid this is currently off the menu.

Clodagh Moriarty, Sainsbury's group chief digital officer, said a broadening of the company's partnership with Deliveroo would depend on the success of the trial - which I guess is the whole point of a trial.

Unfortunately, the partnership is only a trial at this stage.

She said: "With more and more shoppers looking for convenient and affordable meals delivered to their doors, our trial with Deliveroo brings our great value hot food direct to customers' homes.

"We're committed to making it as quick and easy as possible for our customers to shop with us and we'll be listening to their feedback throughout the trial to understand how we can best serve their hot food delivery needs.

"We're excited to see what our customers think before deciding if, how and where we go next with the offer."

From Deliveroo's perspective, the name of the game is providing customers with as many options as possible, so the ball is seemingly in Sainsbury's court.

Justin Landsberger, Deliveroo's commercial director, said: "We're excited to launch Sainsbury's on Deliveroo and bring even more choice to our customers around the UK.

"At Deliveroo we pride ourselves on providing customers with an excellent selection of food options, catering for every occasion, and this new partnership will allow us to do that."

If you don't live in one of the aforementioned cities and can't wait to see if the partnership is rolled out nationwide, then you could always get yourself a Greggs on Just Eat.

The baker teamed up with the delivery service earlier this month... though it too is currently only trialling the partnership in London, Glasgow and Newcastle.

So basically, only people in the capital can currently order a Sainsbury's pizza and a Gregg's steak bake to their door; typical London bias eh?
