Online Calculator Works Out How Many Sexual Partners You've Been Exposed To

Just as a little example - if you've slept with five people, you've indirectly slept with over 330,000...

Have you ever been plagued by thoughts of how many other people your partner has slept with? And in turn, how many people those other people have done the business with? Multiply that by the number of partners you've had, and the mind may begin to boggle somewhat.

Well, here's some weird news you probably didn't expect to read - there's now an online calculator that uses scientific data to work out just how many sexual partners you've been indirectly exposed to. Finally, you can put your mind at ease! Or not.

Right, first things first - the answer to those thoughts really doesn't matter and you probably need to stop thinking about it.

But still, the technology exists! So if you're curious, Zava has just the tool for you.

The idea is that if you sleep with a new partner, chances are they may have slept with a few people already. So you've indirectly been exposed to all of those people, not to mention the people they've previously slept with - and so on.

This network is then quantified and estimated based on the number of your sexual partners, and the average number of partners they've had before you.

Basically, the calculator works out the number of people you've been exposed to within six degrees of connection.

The above example is based on someone from Manchester, UK, having five sexual partners with each partner having an average of nine themselves.

According to the calculator, that would mean you'd be indirectly exposed to 332,150 partners which equates to 100 percent of the population of Hull...

However it does also average out to around 13 percent of the population of Manchester itself.

More than you'd thought, eh?

When it comes to those who have had a few more sexual partners - 20, for example - that indirect number, rather unsurprisingly, shoots up to 1,328,600.

It also equates to 100% of the population of Glasgow and is the equivalent to 52.03 percent of Manchester.

The same number down in London would mean that you'd only slept with 13.57 percent of the population in the country's capital.

You can calculate your number here.

One thing is for sure, if this is going to highlight the importance of anything it's protecting yourself from sexually transmitted infections.

Seen at this scale, the true level of risk from unprotected sex will hopefully make people think again about ditching condoms.

But we don't need to tell you that because sales of condoms have rocketed as lockdowns have eased, with Durex reporting a 'double-digit' increase in sales over the first quarter of 2021, compared to a year ago.
