It's been less than a month since Elon Musk landed himself in hot water thanks to his social media activity, and already he's up to his old tricks again - this time with Fortnite.

It all started when the business mogul trolled the free online video game by tweeting a fake news headline that suggested he had bought the game and deleted it entirely.

To add fuel to the fire, he posted it with the caption: "had to be done ur welcome."

Twitter

While it was an unexpectedly savage move from Musk to post the story to his 23 million followers, Fortnite have already bitten back with a response that's as spicy as the tweet itself.

Linking to a story on Inverse that quotes Musk as suggesting the first human base on Mars will be built by 2028, Fortnite commented on the post with the following: "A whole decade @elonmusk? Just build, LOL!"

Twitter

In other words, hurry the fuck up, dude! Oh, and for those of you who think the last part of that tweet sounds pretty weak, according to Comic Book, it's a reference to the many Fortnite fans who instruct players that are complaining or losing to 'Just Build, LOL'.

Of course, it didn't end there and Musk replied with: "Reality is hard".

Twitter

The internet being the internet, this back-and-forth led to an inevitable outburst of tweets from gamers who were shocked to see this whole thing unfold.

As said, it's a pretty ballsy move from Musk, who was only recently fined $20 million and ordered to step down as Tesla chairman for a period of at least three years following a false and misleading tweet that he was planning on taking the company private, which led to chaos on the market and caused panic for investors, prompting the SEC, a US government regulatory body, to sue for alleged securities fraud. Ouch.

It was also reported that his tweeting would be monitored by the company going forward - we wonder if they've caught wind of this recent spat with Fortnite.
