Firefighters have blasted an online craze that has seen teenagers become trapped in kids' swing sets.

In one of many challenges to sweep through TikTok, children who are simply too big to be doing stuff like this have been filming themselves sitting in the snug seats.

But while it might seem to be a jolly old jape, for many it has meant having to be rescued by the emergency services after getting stuck in said swing set.

One of those was 14-year-old Layani Maclean, who was in a local park with some mates last month when she got wedged into the swing.

The teen was stuck for over an hour, and despite her pals trying to free her with washing-up liquid, her mum, Charlie Maclean, was forced to call firefighters for help.

The 40-year-old said: "It was a really bizarre situation to walk into.

Layani had to be freed by firefighters.

"When my neighbour called to tell me I just started laughing, but when I arrived it was clear it was a bit more serious than i initially thought.

"My daughter was really embarrassed when we had to call the fire fighters, but when they arrived they were amazing.

"They did a great job, whilst cracking all the possible swing jokes they could think of.

"This definitely wasn't the first job they'd been to like that and they assured both me and my daughter that it wouldn't be their last.

"We're in the middle of baking them a cake now to say thank you."

But Layani isn't alone. The latest teen to give it a go was a schoolgirl in Southampton.

A team from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spent around an hour cutting her free from the swing set.

Speaking about the bizarre incident, one of the crew members branded the incident 'plain stupid'.

They said: "We don't normally judge anyone at the calls we go to.

"However, getting stuck in a child's swing whilst filming a TikTok is just plain stupid.

"This idiotic behaviour has tied up a truck for nearly an hour, preventing it from attended other calls."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire Control later tweeted about the incident, writing: "Yet another TikTok call for a person stuck in a swing. It is not clever. Please use appropriate-sized swings for your age."

In July, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service put out a warning after a number of teens in the region also succumbed to the same fate.

In a tweet the service wrote: "If you are over the age of four, please don't try and get in one."
