YouTubers often get a hard time from wider society - partly because plenty of them are actually pretty annoying, and partly because most of us are jealous that we aren't making a big fat living from making daft videos.

However, a group of YouTubers undoubtedly deserve credit after launching a campaign to raise $20,000,000 (£15,592,110) in order to plant 20 million trees.

The campaign is being led by Mr Beast, or Jimmy Donaldson, who was inspired by his followers when they spammed him to plant 20 million trees to celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers back in May.

MrBeast has joined forces with the likes of Mark Rober, Rhett & Link, Marshmello, AsapScience, Jeffree Star, Simone Giertz and The Try Guys to push the cause. It's basically like a modern day Live Aid. Sort of.

But whether you're one of their millions of subscribers or left scratching your head as to who they are, the YouTubers spearheading the #TeamTrees project have a combined following of 650 million subscribers to call upon, so they have the potential to make a huge impact.

Mr Beast launched the campaign in the above video, in which he claimed he and his chums would plant 20 million trees on their tod. But after two days, and with the help of loads of volunteers, they only managed 1,700 - a good effort, but some way short of the target.

It's at this point that the 21-year-old calls upon viewers to donate a dollar to the Arbor Day Foundation - the largest non-profit tree planting organisation in the world - who will plant one tree for every dollar donated.

Concluding the video with his call to arms, Mr Beast said: "A lot of you might be of the mindset of the old me, that was basically 'someone else will figure it out'. But that's not how it works, we genuinely need all the help we can get.

"Honestly I've done everything I can: I've got a bunch of fans together and we've planted thousands of trees. Me and Mark [Rober] have invested months of time behind the scenes getting this together and I'm personally planting 100,000 trees - aka a $100,000 donation.

"I've literally tried my best to do everything I can and now it's your turn."

He continued: "We only have one Earth and it's important we take care of it. Recently lots of not so great things have been happening to forests and people just keep making fun of our generation for retweet activism and not actually doing something, which is why we created TeamTrees.org with the help of the Arbor Day Foundation."

The campaign has so far raised $906,000 (£706,322) and you can donate here.
