This is the moment a 'homophobic cowboy' begins attacking a pride crosswalk in Canada:

The man, later said to be a 71-year-old from Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, can be seen shouting obscenities at people painting the rainbow crosswalk.

The video surfaced on social media and shows the incident which took place on 9 June where the unidentified man can be heard shouting: "You know what? You guys are getting absolutely stupid."

He is also filmed speaking to a police officer later where he can be heard saying: "I disagree with what is going on so I am speaking up."

Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark later said he was angered to see the 'aggressive and homophobic attack on the folks peacefully painting'.

He added: "As we gear up to celebrate Pride in Saskatoon, this is a reminder of the homophobia and transphobia that many in our community and province face far too often.

"And it is all the more reason why Pride is so important in bringing us together to work towards a city of equity, empathy and shared purpose."

In a press release, Saskatoon Police wrote: "A man was arrested following reports of a disturbance on Broadway Avenue last night.

"At approximately 9:00 p.m., June 9, 2021, Patrol officers were dispatched to a call of a disturbance at Broadway Avenue and 10th Street East. Initial reports stated that a man was aggressively shouting at a group of individuals painting a crosswalk.

"It was also reported that the man was attempting to remove road barricades. Officers located the male suspect and, following investigation, charged him with causing a disturbance. He was released on an appearance notice. No one was injured during the incident.

"The 71-year-old man from Quill Lake, SK is expected to appear in court November 24, 2021."

The man tried to remove the road barricades.

Saskatoon Pride put out a joint statement with OUTSaskatoon addressing not only this incident but another whereby a queer man in Toronto was assaulted.

They tweeted saying there is still 'much to fight for' including basic rights and freedoms of people who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

In response to their statement, someone wrote: "Thank you all for standing strong in a legal way. We endure SO MUCH EVERY SINGLE DAY for being authentic to ourselves and everyone else, a quality many haters are not strong enough to understand."
