Jason Momoa Apologises As Old Clip Of A Rape Joke Resurfaces

Game Of Thrones star Jason Momoa has issued an emotional apology after a rape joke he made six years ago at a Comic-Con event.

A clip from the panel has resurfaced showing him saying that it was enjoyable because he got to 'rape beautiful women' when he was asked about working on sci-fi and fantasy genres.

In full, the 38-year-old said: "But as far as sci-fi and fantasy, I love that genre because there are so many things you can do, like rip someone's tongue out of their throat and get away with it, and rape beautiful women."

Momoa, who plays Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, took to Instagram on Friday to address the situation.

He wrote: "I awoke in Australia to the justified reactions by many people to a distasteful joke I made years ago in Hall H for which I am sorry. I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks to that day.

"I know my sincerest apology now won't take away those hurtful words. Rape and sexual harassment can reach anyone and I have seen first hand its painful torment among members of my own family and friends.

"I made a truly tasteless comment. It is unacceptable and I sincerely apologize with a heavy heart for the words I said. All apologies, Jason."

The star has made no further comment on the matter.

Back in 2011, in an interview with the New York Post, he spoke about a scene with Game Of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke, where his character and Clarke's, Daenerys, have a sexual encounter.

"Yeah, I'm raping Emilia. I love her, but I'm hurting her and she's crying. We could have made it longer, but you get the idea. I'm not a rapist! I prefer my women to enjoy sex," he said.

The entire scandal has shocked fans of Momoa and Game of Thrones.

"I loved Jason til this," one person wrote on Twitter, while another added: "Oh man this is not good."

Again, someone said: "Why, Jason Momoa, WHY?!?!! I thought you were exempt from our everyday "Men are Trash" rants."

However, many people were quick to point out that this awful error of judgement does not mean that all men 'are trash'.
