When the sun comes and the heat rises, many of us are known to lounge about feeling lazy - with the belief that it's too warm and sticky to do anything but lie in a park with an ice cream, napping.

But that wasn't the case for one empathetic teenager in Houston, Texas, who stepped in to help an elderly lady at a bus stop, shielding her from the blazing sunshine with an umbrella.

"It was unbearably hot," the teen, Louis Jordan, told ABC affiliate KTRK 7.

"I wouldn't want to be out there in the sun."

Louis explained he was picking his mum up from work when he saw the elderly stranger sitting in the direct sunlight. Spotting an umbrella in his car, he went over to shield her from the heat.

"Come to find out, it was going to be a little longer for METRO Lift to come and get her," he continued.

"So we ended up waiting out there for an hour and 45 minutes."

The photo of Louis' incredible act of kindness has since gone viral, with many seeing it as a call to action to pay forward the good deed.

In an even nicer twist, according to KTRK, Louis and the woman - who is called Michelle - have also since struck up a friendship.

Now Louis goes out to help her anytime he spots her waiting, grabbing his umbrella before heading over for a chinwag.

"We laugh, joke," he said. "She's in a book club. Come to find out, she likes pork chops."

His mother, Bernette Botts, was the person who took the photo, but apparently it's not the first time she's seen Louis go out of his way to help somebody - once risking his life to rescue his grandmother during Hurricane Harvey, after she became trapped.

"She was trapped inside, four feet of water, no power," Bernette said.

"He called me back from my mom's and said, 'I got her'."

Bernette also said that Jordan is a firm reminder that there's still a great deal of good in the world, and that she has hopes that his acts of kindness will be paid forward by other people.

"I am one proud mama," Bernette said.

Louis added: "I pray that God allows me to be used every day."

What a guy - something to think about next time you're lazing about in that park, eh?
