Woman Says Her Mum Paid Fiancé To Go Out With Her Behind Her Back

It all seemed to good to be true when her partner proposed to her with a massive rock just two months into dating. It was...

A woman has cancelled her wedding after discovering that the whole thing was a set-up by her own mother.

The former bride-to-be has shared her awful tale of deception and deceit on BuzzFeed, after the site asked readers to share reasons why they'd called off their weddings.

So what exactly happened?

It all started with a proposal after just two months of dating. "It was all so fast and I was head over heels, so when he proposed with a massive diamond, I just went for it and said yes. I had nothing to lose," she said in her story.

Her partner was seemingly just a smitten as her, because he said that the wedding should be as soon as possible because they were so in love, which of course is a lovely, perfectly valid reason for a quick hitch.

Her mum, meanwhile, was incredibly proud of their engagement, but then why shouldn't she be? It's not every day your daughter's getting married to the man of her dreams.

In fact, her mum was so proud that she started splashing the cash about in preparation for the big day. That's when her daughter started getting suspicious.

"My mom bought me the most gorgeous dress (super expensive) and my parents paid for the whole thing," she wrote.

"I always asked him why his parents wouldn't pay, but my parents would butt in and say they insisted, and he claimed his family was poor," she added, which is maybe fair enough, except - as she pointed out - for the massive rock that was on the engagement ring he'd proposed with.

Given the daughter knew her parents weren't big spenders either, she started to get suspicious - and that's when things took a turn.

"I got my hands on the store he bought the ring from through some careful snooping and went into the store where he bought it to see if it was real (it was!!!)" she wrote.

"The man at the store said it was one-of-a-kind and he remembered it being bought. Apparently, my fiancé didn't buy it, my mother did! And get this, she bought it a month before my fiancé and I started dating."

Uh oh.

She then started joining up the dots. If her mum had bought the engagement ring a month before she even started dating her partner, then did she somehow know that he was about to walk into her life?

Well yes, yes she did. In fact, it was her mum who was the one who paid him to take her daughter out!

"She met him through a friend and paid him to go out on our first date (to a five-star restaurant). She paid for all of our dates and, of course, my wedding because she was so desperate for me to get married and he was just in it for the money" the daughter explained.

This may all have been because she'd recently come out as bisexual.

"I had come out as bisexual about a year before all of this. I wonder if it was because she was so desperate to see me with a man and not a woman" she said.

Thankfully this tale does have a largely happy ending: "I am now dating a wonderful woman and my mother and I no longer speak."

Possibly for the best!
